Pre-Surgery: Preparing for Your Procedure

Before undergoing bariatric surgery, it is often recommended to follow a Very Low-Calorie Diet (VLCD) to help prepare your body for surgery. At Surgery Gold Coast, we recommend using the Formulite meal replacement products as part of your VLCD, which are designed to provide essential nutrients while reducing caloric intake.

Why Formulite?
Formulite products contain high-quality protein and essential nutrients, supporting your nutritional needs while reducing calorie consumption in preparation for surgery. Many patients find Formulite an effective and well-tolerated option for this phase of their journey.

As a Surgery Gold Coast patient, you are eligible for a 10% discount on Formulite products to support your pre-surgery nutrition. Visit the Formulite website for more information about their product range and how it fits into your pre-surgery plan.

Our dietitian will work closely with you to customise the VLCD plan according to your specific health needs, under the guidance of Dr Free and our multidisciplinary team.

Post-Surgery: Healing and Recovery

After surgery, your diet will progress through several phases, with close guidance from our in-house dietitians and your surgical team to support your recovery:

  • Phase 1: Clear Liquids
In the initial days post-surgery, a clear liquid diet helps your body adjust and promotes healing.

  • Phase 2: Full Liquids
When your surgical team advises, you will begin consuming nutrient-rich full liquids, including protein shakes, which can be supplemented with Formulite products to ensure proper nutrition.

  • Phase 3: Pureed Foods
As your body heals, you will gradually incorporate pureed foods, focusing on nutrient-dense options recommended by our dietitians.

  • Phase 4: Soft Foods
Approximately one month after surgery, your dietitian will guide you in transitioning to soft foods, following the recommendations of your surgeon and medical team.

Ongoing: Maintaining Long-Term Health

Achieving long-term weight loss success involves ongoing commitment to a healthy lifestyle. At Surgery Gold Coast, we provide continued support to ensure you remain on track with your health goals.

  • Nutritional Guidance
As you transition to regular solid foods, our dietitians will create a personalized nutrition plan to ensure your diet is balanced and supportive of your long-term health. Regular follow-ups with Dr. Free and our team will help monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your plan.

  • Psychological Support
Our in-house psychologists are available to provide support, helping you manage the psychological aspects of your weight loss journey, addressing any challenges you may face post-surgery.

  • Continued Access to Formulite Products
As part of your ongoing health journey, Formulite products remain a viable option for maintaining a balanced, low-calorie diet when meal replacements are appropriate. The 10% discount for Surgery Gold Coast patients continues to apply.
